Questions: What is PhotoScape? Should I remove it from my PC? How to uninstall it?

PhotoScape is a free photo editing software developed by a Korean company and available for different versions of Windows. Many users install this program for a try but later decide to remove it from their PCs, and the reasons can be various. Meanwhile, they could encounter various issues during the uninstall of PhotoScape. Today in this post we are going to share two approaches of uninstalling PhotoScape (or other programs). Read through this post and then pick up you preferred approach.

Approach 1: manually uninstall PhotoScape in three steps

What are the correct steps to uninstall an unwanted software without causing troubles and leaving traces? The process is not as easy as you think, and it could take time. To be brief, uninstalling PhotoScape requires you to go through three necessary stages:

> Terminate all the running processes that are pertaining to PhotoScape
> Uninstall PhotoScape via Programs & Features (or Apps & Features)
> Detect and delete invalid entries of PhotoScape in Windows registry

Step 1. shut down PhotoScape if it is running

Typically before you uninstall a program, you should make sure it is not in use.

If PhotoScape appears in the system tray, right click on it and choose Exit. If you cannot find it there, use Task Manager to see it still runs silently:

  • Right click the taskbar at the bottom and select Task Manager option in the list
  • ClickPhotoScape in the Processes tab, and click on End Task button

After terminating all PhotoScape processes, you can start to uninstall it from the Programs & Features (Window 7/8) or from Apps & Features (Windows 10).

Step 2. uninstall PhotoScape from Start menu

Here is how to carry out a standard uninstall of program in different system versions:

  • Windows 10
Right click on Start menu and choose Apps and Features
Select PhotoScape, click Uninstall button, and click Uninstall again
Click the Yes button in the User Account Control window to allow the uninstallation

  • Windows 8
Right click on Start menu and choose Programs and Features in the list
Highlight PhotoScape with one click and click on Uninstall button above

  • Windows 7
Hit the Windows key or click the Start menu and select Control Panel
Choose View by Category in the upper-right corner and click on Programs
Locate PhotoScape, right click on it and click on Uninstall

When the PhotoScape wizard shows up, click Uninstall button to start the removal. When the uninstallation completes, click Close button, and then reboot your PC.

A little trick: What if you cannot find PhotoScape in the list of installed programs or there is no response after clicking Uninstall? That could be triggered by the corruption or missing of PhotoScape files. The solution is to re-install PhotoScape and then to uninstall it from the Start menu. The installation will cover the damaged/missing files.

Step 3. detect PhotoScape traces in registry

Have no clue how to detect PhotoScape leftovers? In most cases, the programs will leave some traces in Windows Registry even if it has been removed through the Add/Remove Programs applet. Now follow the instructions to remove the remnants.

  • (Right) click on Start menu and then click on Run to launch Run dialog box
  • Type “regedit”in the Open:box and press Enter key to activate Registry Editor
  • If you are prompted by UAC for confirmation, click on Yes button to open it up
  • Click Find from the Edit menu, then type PhotoScapein the search box and click on Find Next button to start the scanning around the whole Registry

  • Once an associated keys/values is highlighted, right click on it and choose Delete
  • Hit F3 key to continue deleting PhotoScape-related entries

Warning: before making any modification, make sure to create a backup copy of the Registry. Don’t delete anything there without having the backup as it involves risks!
